Charles Joseph Zapiec grew up in the City of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia, PA); first in a row house in Northeast Philly and then a Twin Attached Row Home a few miles away from his birthplace. He attended LaSalle College High School, a private Catholic School taught by the Christian Brothers. Excelling in academics and sports there, he landed a full scholarship to Penn State University and a spot on the football team soon after Joe Paterno began his illustrious coaching career. Along with team co-captain, Dave Joyner, Chuck led his Nittany Lion’s team to a 31 straight winning streak without a loss, including Orange Bowl victories over Kansas in 1969 and Missouri in 1970.
After college, Chuck, as an All-American linebacker, went onto a successful eight-year professional career in the NFL and CFL. Following his football success, Chuck pursued careers in insurance, finance, and vacation rentals. He and his partner, Debbie, currently live outside Charlotte.
